What is NexGen?

NexGen is a nation‐wide community within the FPA Association with the goal of facilitating the transfer of wisdom, values, and integrity from the pioneers of financial planning to the next generation of professionals. Its members are age 36 and younger. NexGen strives to provide a network that serves to:

 Support, advise, and encourage one another in our professional advancement;

 Promote, foster, and direct programs that aid in the transfer of knowledge from the pioneers of financial planning to the future of the profession; and

 Explore issues common to younger planners and seek means of accentuating the positives and finding resolutions for the negatives.

As may be expected, many conversations among NexGen members are related to finding early success in the profession, gaining acceptance of the generations before us, and helping clients see past the lack of gray hair. But conversations are also related to starting one’s own practice or stepping into a partner role at a well‐established firm. Several NexGen members, both past and present, own their own practices, while others have found a path to partnership within their firms.

Why Should Young Planners Get Involved?

In this regard, the FPA NexGen community (FPA members who are age 36 and under) asks young planners to come get involved with NexGen. The community has grown tremendously and our unique viewpoints on the industry have benefited FPA as a whole. Becoming involved on a local level is helpful as it:

 Identifies you as a future chapter and national leader

 Provides you with a voice to impact future chapter programming and direction of the chapter

 Introduces you to established planners in the community from which to learn

 Allows you to shape the conversation of your NexGen Community

 Offers networking with other young professional organizations in your community

 Provides hands‐on leadership experience on a national and local level

 And much more….

How Can You Get Involved?

Please contact Matt Bacon to attend one of our networking happy hours, volunteer to speak at a local NexGen study group session, or reach out to other planners across Austin who could benefit from an open dialogue amongst young planners.
